What if I don’t want breakfast? 🍳
Hunger doesn’t always show up first thing in the morning. But even if you don’t feel hungry right away, trust me—your body is still craving fuel!
Here’s what a registered dietitian (hi, that’s me) thinks:
It’s easy to skip breakfast, especially when you’re not getting those typical hunger cues. But guess what? The absence of hunger in the morning is often a learned behavior. Sending hunger signals requires energy, and if we consistently ignore those signals, our bodies start thinking, Why waste the effort if you’re not going to eat?
This can make it harder to meet our daily nutritional needs. We need a variety of essential vitamins, minerals (hello, micronutrients), and fiber every day, and breakfast is a key opportunity to get them in.
Most people aren’t getting enough daily fiber, and it’s no surprise—wellness culture loves to push food restriction, especially when it comes to carbs. And guess where a lot of that fiber comes from? Yep, carbs! Total bummer.
Why breakfast matters…
Meet Your Nutrient Needs: Starting the day with breakfast helps you reach your daily micronutrient and fiber goals.
Avoid Overeating Later: Eating in the morning makes you less likely to overeat later to compensate for that missed meal.
Boost Energy: Breakfast gives your body the carbs (yep, carbs!) it needs to fuel your brain and body for the day ahead.
